Anita Carrigan was born on March 29, 1941 in Centerville, Texas to Roy Bain, Sr. & Ruth (Batson) Carrigan. She passed away on June 5, 2017 in Bryan, Texas following a lengthy illness. Anita was preceded in death by both of her parents. She is survived by brother, Roy Bain Carrigan, Jr. (wife, Sharon) of Franklin; sister, Mary Carrigan of Port Lavaca; uncle, Joe Oran Sparky Batson of Bryan and aunt, Eunice Carrigan of Centerville. Anita is also survived by many other cousins, extended family and friends.
Anita graduated from Centerville High School in 1959. She attended Brantley-Draughn Business School in Ft. Worth where she learned bookkeeping and accounting. She was the City Secretary and TAC of Centerville for many years. She then worked at Leisure Lodge Nursing Home which included a variety of tasks. Anita did so much for the residents of Leisure Lodge that went beyond her work. She worked for ETMC Home Health and was a CISD bus driver in her latter years. She was an office clerk and bookkeeper for various businesses in Centerville.
Anita was a member of the First Baptist Church in Centerville. She was a very active member, serving as a Sunday School teacher, singing in the adult choir and working in V.B.S. for many summers. She was very involved in the community, at various times serving as a member of the Board of the Ward Memorial Library, Centerville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Council. She and a number of concerned citizens in the Centerville area worked to start the first ambulance service/EMT/EMS. She was always there to help raise funds for these projects. The fund raisers for those worthycauses, along with Little Dribblers Concession Stands, benefitted when she would volunteer her mothers legendary baking skills to provide cakes, cookies and cupcakes to be sold or auctioned at those events.
Anita hunted and fished as often as she could, enjoying both sports. But, her passion was for Southern Gospel music and the God and Savior who inspired it.
