Sissy was born September 13, 1923 in Birch, Texas to August and Alvina Brinkman. She married Alfred “Challie” Luedke in 1939 at Salem Lutheran Church in Birch. They lived in Brenham were Sissy began her many years as a seamstress; first working at the Sealy Mattress Factory and then after moving to Houston for Nulls Mattress Co. and Eppergy Drapery Shop. In 1960, Sissy and Challie moved their family to Leon County where they raised cattle and did custom hay bailing.

After the death of her husband, Challie; Sissy left the country and moved to Centerville and returned to her seamstress talents and opened Sis’ Sewing Room making custom draperies, quilts, clothing, alterations and other craft items until her health would no longer permit. Her hardest task was to “say no” to her customers. When not sewing for her customers or sewing for her family, she enjoyed gardening and yard work. She raised many tasty vegetables and had a beautiful yard full of flowers and greenery – even winning yard of the month.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church in Palestine and in 1976 Sissy was involved
in the organization of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Centerville, Texas where she
remained a member until her death.

Aunt Sissy to so many and most importantly, Big Granny, to her grandchildren, she will be remembered as a woman ahead of her time. She was a hard worker, not afraid to get her hands dirty. She did all the traditional womanly duties - cooking, cleaning, sewing, taking care of the family with ease while at the same time - hunting, fishing, working cows, riding horses or bailing hay. Big Granny did it all, never complaining. She leaves behind a great legacy leading a life of honesty and hard work.

Sissy was preceded in death by her husband, Challie Luedke; her parents; her three
brothers, Theadore Brinkman, Wilfred Brinkman, Walter Brinkman; her five sisters,
Annie Schultz, Doris Supak, Emma Hruska, Ruby Telg, Esther Bates; her great-grandson Derrick Michael Bussey and great-granddaughter, Myra Harris.

She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Alvera Guyton and husband
Billy, and Shirley Easterling and husband Billy, all of Huntsville; five grandchildren, Carrie Hines and husband Tim, of Bryan, Donna Bussey of Huntsville, Tessa Luedke of Dayton, James Coldiron and wife, Geegee of Huntsville, Tracy Thompson of Rosenberg; twelve great-grandchildren, 18 great, great-grandchildren, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Saviors Lutheran Church or Centerville Cemetery Association.
