Guy Edward "Eddie" Chumley

Guy Edward “Eddie” Chumley passed away on November 23, 2020 in a nursing home in Georgetown, Texas. He was born September 26, 1940 to parents, Foy Guy & Lucille (Cannon) Chumley in Hearne, Robertson County, Texas. Family members who preceded him in death were father (1975), mother (2013) and younger brother, Thomas Chumley (2017). He is survived by sister, LaDoris Chumley (Ray) Landrum of Jarrell; sister, Ruby Marcille Kinnison of Louisville, KY; sons, Richard Shannon Chumley, Michael Edward Chumley and Jeffery "Trent” Chumley, as well as, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Eddie’s family moved from Hearne, Texas to Galena Park, Texas in 1952. Eddie graduated from Galena Park High School in 1959. He held the distinction of perfect attendance in all his school years. While in high school, Eddie was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He also worked at Galena Park Movie Theater as and usher and later, manager, of not only Galena Park but their other movie houses, as well. His next job was working for a railroad repair shop in Channelview, Texas. Eddie worked his way up the ladder from mechanic to lead inspector at the company. He retired from this line of work after twenty-eight years.

Eddie loved watching all sports on television, especially the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros. He also loved old western movies. He was also an avid collector of movies and documentaries on video tapes and dvd’s.

Eddie’s other joy in life was coaching his boys in baseball, basketball and football. They won many awards and championships.

In 1991, Eddie moved in with his mother so he could take care of her and he did until she passed away in 2013 at the age of ninety-six years young.

Not too long prior to death, Eddie stated one of his joys was the vacation he took with his sister, LaDoris and her husband Ray, to Branson, Missouri and Louisville, Kentucky to visit his other sister, Marcille. He was able to do activities that he had never done, like attend the Kentucky Derby, visit the Sluggerville Bat Museum, enjoy a live baseball game and watch a steamboat race. The highlight for Eddie was the Dixie Stampede Show in Branson.

Funeral services for Eddie will be held 2 P.M., Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. He will be laid to rest next to his parents in Norwood Cemetery in Hearne, Texas following the service. A brief visitation will be held prior to the service Sunday from 1 P.M. to service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers: Matthew Landrum Lowe, Robert Smith, Randy Landrum, Samuel Landrum, Ray Landrum, Sr., Steven Dale Landrum.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
