James Clyde Robeson

October 5, 1947 — June 30, 2020

Funeral services for James Clyde Robeson, 72, of Redland, will be held at 10 A.M. Friday, July 3, 2020 at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

The son of Marvin and Hazel (McLaughlin) Robeson, James Clyde was born October 5, 1947 in Madisonville, Texas. A graduate of Leon High School and Sam Houston State University, James Clyde served as a probation officer in Galveston, Limestone, Freestone and Leon County. He also worked with at-risk young men at the wilderness camp outside Crockett, Texas.

James enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working with stock and gardens at Brookdale Farm, the family place. He was a hard worker who took pride in a job well done, especially when working alongside family and friends. Many people remember him for his eagerness to help any time it was asked of him. James was honored with the title of Master Gardener Emeritus for his work with the Leon County Master Gardener chapter, especially on the rose garden at Sullivan Park in Centerville. He had a remarkable knowledge of trees, grasses, and wildflowers indigenous to Leon County. He also loved reading and enthusiastically shared his knowledge and books.

James was a loving husband to Karen and a dedicated daddy to Sarah, Rebekah, and Rachel. Because of his steadfast affection, his family always knew that they meant the world to him. This shared love was never more evident than in the last few months of his life as he suffered through his lingering illness with his wife at his side. He loved the Lord, and has been part of several congregations, including Redland Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Centerville, Leona Baptist Church, and Calvary Baptist.

James went to be with his Lord and Savior the evening of June 30, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Hazel Robeson. He is survived by his wife, Karen, daughters Sarah DuVall and husband JD of Temple, Rebekah Schaub and husband Will of College Station, and Rachel Cheyne and husband Robert of Bay City, and four grandchildren, William Cheyne, Joseph Schaub, Abigail Cheyne, and Luke Schaub, sisters Mary Sue Watson of Centerville, and Ada Burk and husband Billy of Pearland, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Calvary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 416, Centerville, Texas 75833 or the Leon County Master Gardeners, c/o Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, P.O. Box 188, Centerville, Texas 75833
