James O. "Jimmy" Cox

Funeral services for Jimmy Cox, age 71, of Mesquite, Texas, will be held 1 P.M., Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Keith Ackerman and Richard “Chico” Smith will co-officiate the service. Jimmy will be laid to rest in Brushy Cemetery in the Flo Community of Leon County, Texas.

James O. “Jimmy” Cox was born to Cecil & Patsy Cox January 11, 1949 in McGregor, Texas. He was saved and baptized in the Church of Christ and loved the Lord with all of his heart. He eagerly shared his testimony with those he met. As a small child, Jimmy contracted Polio. Throughout years of treatment and multiple surgeries, his disability never kept him from living his life to the fullest.

Jimmy was a licensed locksmith in the state of Texas and owner of Cox’s Lock & Key, a business he began in 1989. All three of his sons eventually followed him into the business. Jimmy loved NASCAR and classic rock. Due to his larger-than-life personality, he became well-known to members of his favorite bands, chief among them, Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Jimmy passed away October 29, 2020 at his home in Mesquite surrounded by those he loved. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; son, James Michael Cox; brother, Michael Cox; uncles, Ronnie Allison & Dean Allison and aunt, Helen Smith.

Surviving family members include wife, Laura Cox of Dallas; sons, Jacob (Victoria) Cox of Dallas and Matthew (Summer) Cox of Dallas; daughter, Melissa (Jeff) Rebrovich of Eddy; grandchildren, Shyanne, Nicole, Riley, Nicholas, Conor, Mason and Anderson; sister, Karen (Pete) Connell of Golston and nieces & nephew, Chris Roberts, Lisa Monus, Stacy Cox Helm, Jeff Cox and Steven Cox.

Pallbearers: Mike Rodriguez, Dale Burnham, Curt Donaldson, Russell Morgan, David Hopkins, Richard Cleveland

Honorary Pallbearers: David Fortner, Doug Ragsdales

Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
