Lawanda "Faye" Hodges

October 2, 1929 — August 22, 2018

Funeral services for Mrs. Faye Hodges, age 88, of Spring, Texas and formerly of Jacksonville and Normangee, Texas, will be held at 3 P.M., Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Pastor Merle Blado, associate pastor of First Baptist Church in Conroe, Texas, will officiate the service, and interment will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery in rural Leon County, Texas. A brief visitation will take place Saturday afternoon from 1 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.

LaWanda “Faye” Hodges was born October 2, 1929 in Flynn, Texas to Avril & Mary Elizabeth (Grimes) Douthitt. She married Rubin Carroll “R.C.” Hodges August 28, 1946 and lived much of her life in Jacksonville, Texas until his retirement. While living in Jacksonville, Faye was a member of the Beall Chapel Baptist Church. Her mission in life was keeping her house and providing for her family as the matron of the home. Faye was an excellent cook and enjoyed offering copious amounts of food each meal for her family to choose from. She opened her home on several occasions, allowing her siblings, a young woman from Mexico working on a four year degree and a local student wanting to finish high school in Jacksonville a safe place to live at a time when they needed it most.

Faye and R.C. moved to Normangee to live out their retired years. She later moved to Spring to be near her daughter where she remained quite independent for about five years until her health began to fail. Faye passed away August 22, 2018 in Spring, Texas. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband of fifty-two years, R.C. Hodges and sister, Mary Helen Grimes.

Surviving family members include daughter & son-in-law, Carol & Bill Elsbury; sister, Irlin Sapp; brothers, J.D. Douthitt and Dwane Douthitt (Shirley) and grandson, Kenneth R. Elsbury. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Eunice & Winnie Hodges and very special extended family members, Johnny & Lilly Griggs, Dustin & Danielle Griggs (their children, Bode Chance & Lorilei Anne Griggs), Savannah & Clayton Preston (their children, Gracelyn Jo Preston & Candace & Dustan Green) and Pat Grimes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Clear Creek Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 104, Flynn, Texas 77855.

Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas is entrusted with arrangements.
