Lindy Lou (Lacey) Rice

October 27, 1949 — December 16, 2022

Lindy Lou (Lacey) Rice was born in Crockett, Texas on October 27, 1949, to Charles Douglas Lacey and Margaret "Nell" (Hall) Lacey. She left this earth on December 16, 2022, at the age of seventy-three, at her home in Centerville. She is survived by her husband, Randall Gene "Randy" Rice of Centerville; three step-sons, Ronnie Rice, Charlie Rice (wife, Becky and sons, Everett, Eli and Easton), and Russell Rice; brothers, Ronnie Lacey (wife, Carole), Danny Lacey (wife, Kim); nieces, Karla (Lacey) Keaton, Kelly (Lacey) Teer, Alex (Lacey) Harris; nephew, Park Lacey and several great nieces and nephews.

Lindy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Centerville. She attended Centerville ISD all of her school years and graduated in 1968. She was very active and athletic in school, and she was a cheerleader and excelled in basketball. After graduation, she attended Sam Houston State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1976. She then attended nursing school in Tyler for a period of time and worked as a caregiver for a while. She also worked at the family business, Lacey's Grocery in Centerville.

She married the love of her life, Randy Rice, on June 17, 1989, becoming a full-time housewife and mom to two rambunctious boys, Charlie and Russell. The family lived in Bryan for a period of time prior to moving to Centerville.

Lindy loved to cook, and rarely went to anyone's house to visit or any gathering without taking at least one kind of dish. But, she also liked to eat out, A LOT! Shrimpy's in Madisonville was her favorite. She also really, really liked country and fifties and sixties rock and roll music and had an extensive record collection. But let it be known that Elvis was her favorite singer of any kind of music.

As many know, Lindy LOVED to talk on the phone. She called several people daily, touching base and finding out how they were doing and, of course, to tell you how she was doing.

She loved her nieces and nephews like they were her own. She was the "fun-loving" aunt who always made sure they had a good time when they visited. She also had mad piano skills, niece, Kelly said.

Boy oh boy, did Lindy love animals. You'd never find her house without at least one dog, usually more. She treated them better than humans, sometimes, always cooking "people food" for them instead of dog food on a daily basis. She even bought a tiny casket to bury her beloved pug, Suzy in.

Lindy didn't like funerals and didn't go to many. She had always said that her funeral should be short and sweet. So let's all remember Lindy for her bubbly personality, generosity, and compassion. She loved her family and friends, as well as her pets. Lindy touched the lives of so many people. She will be truly missed and will never, ever be forgotten.

Funeral services for Lindy will be held 11 A.M., Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Interment will be in Leona Cemetery, Leona. Texas. A time of visitation will take place from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home prior to the service.
