Maggie B Hopkins

Maggie Barefield Hopkins was born on September 29, 1947 in Goliad, Texas to the late Elex & Beauty Barefield.

She was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age and attended New Zion Baptist Church.

Maggie was employed with the Centerville I.S.D. for twenty-three years until her health failed her.

On the morning of March 8, 2021 at her home in Centerville, Texas, in the presence of her children and grandchildren, a gentle wind blew across the land reaching out to take Maggie's hand as the angels came and called her name. The Almighty God showed his power of love as the family prayed and witnessed their momma and grandma take her last earthly breath. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elex & Beauty Barefield; one son, Jeff hopkins; brothers, Jody & Leroy Barefield; and three sisters, Ella Faye Thomas, Rosie Rivers & Beauty Mae Ward.

Those left to cherish and remember her sweet and precious memories are three sons, J.V. Hopkins, Jr. (Niki) of Dallas, Bert Hopkins (Tanjah) of San Angelo and George Ward, Jr. (Latrice) of Centerville; two daughters, Ruby Hopkins of Crockett and Sheena Johnson (James) of Marshall; fourteen grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Mary Johnson of Dallas; two brothers, Bonnell Barefield of Waco and Harold Barefield of Corsicana; extended family, Willie D. Hopkins (Georgia) of Crockett; seven children; nineteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; Janet Brown (Harold) of Humble; four children and eleven grandchildren. Maggie is also survived by a host of special friends, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Homegoing services for Maggie will be held 1 P.M., Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. The eulogist and officiant is Evangelist Sharonda Johnson. Interment will follow in Pleasant Springs Cemetery in the Pleasant Springs Community of Leon County.
