Obituary

A funeral service honoring the life of Mattie O'Bryan, age 80, will be held 1 P.M., Friday, January 28, 2022 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Mrs. O'Bryan will be laid to rest in the Centerville Cemetery. A brief visitation will be held prior to the service Friday from 12 Noon to 1 P.M. at the funeral home.

Mattie Elizabeth (Watson) O’Bryan was born April 3, 1941 in the community of Corinth, Texas to Earl D. Watson and Sarah Caroline “Carrie” (Smith) Watson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. O'Bryan; both of her parents; brother, Teddie S. Watson and sister, Betty Alma (Watson) Moore.

Mattie was raised in Corinth and Centerville, Texas. She attended Centerville High School, and graduated in 1959. She attended Centerville United Methodist Church, where she and Harry were married June 11, 1966. Mattie attended Dallas Vocational Nursing School in Dallas, Texas, and practiced nursing for a short while at St. Paul’s Catholic Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She spent the remainder of her working career as a Records Supervisor for Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. in Houston, Texas.

Mattie's favorite hobbies and past times included snow skiing, traveling all over the United States, and researching her family history. She was a great cook and was always trying out new recipes and bringing them to many family holiday celebrations. She always delighted everyone with her wonderful divinity candy at Christmas. Mattie loved spending time with her family in Centerville, especially during deer season, and the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Surviving family includes brother, David E. Watson; nephews, Michael S. Watson, Mark T. Watson and David A. Watson; nieces, Sheri L. Sheppard & husband, James and Lori A. Barnett; great niece, Meaghan Russell and husband, Brandon; great nephew, Colin A. Harris; brothers-in-law, Earl H. Moore and George O’Bryan, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Rose Lee Kloss & husband, Bill and Diane O’Bryan; nephews, Steven O’Bryan and wife, Carol, Vaughn Kloss & wife, LaTania, Kevin O’Bryan, Darren O’Bryan and George O’Bryan, Jr & wife, Jessica; nieces, Laurie Cox & husband, Matt, Annette Keene & husband, Scott, Cristina McComber & husband, Mickel and Candice Hopp & husband, Jason; foster daughter, Mae Edwards & husband, Dwayne; and lifelong friends, Vicki and Richard Stanfield and goddaughter, Staci Stanfield, as well as, Tonya Landry, Ryan Frala and Logan Frala

The family of Mattie O'Bryan would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lucian and Crina Roman at Grace Elderly Care, for their wonderful care and love while Aunt Mattie was with them.
