Michael Joseph Roush

March 7, 1957 — November 17, 2020

Mike Roush, age 63, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family November 17, 2020 in Houston, Texas after a brief and valiant battle with cancer. He was born Michael Joseph Roush March 7, 1957 in Coldwater, Michigan to Harley Leroy & Shelby Jean (Shoup) Roush.

Mike had lived in Leon County for the past twelve and a half years, coming from Somerville, Texas. It was in Leon County that he not only found his permanent home but a second family in his employers and coworkers at Champion Ranch. He was a dedicated worker who made himself available whenever and wherever he was needed for a job.

Mike also found acceptance and carved out his own niche as a mentor to others who were going through similar personal problems that Mike had once faced himself. He served as a supporter to fellow A.A. members and was one of the founding members of the Mending Fences group at the Cowboy Church of Leon County in Centerville. Mike had a caring heart and felt that it was important to always help others as much as he possibly could.

The one idea that Mike held dear to his heart was the mantra, “laughter makes the world go around.” He knew that his sense of humor had carried him far in life and wanted to instill that same appreciation for humor in those around him—because what is life without laughter?

Mike enjoyed fishing, watching his favorite NASCAR driver, Denny Hamlin and especially the Green Bay Packers football team.

Mike was preceded in death by both of his parents. He leaves behind children, Harley Leroy (Angela) Roush of Brazoria and Kara Michelle (Bradley) Brothers of Angleton; step-son, James Crosby of College Station; sisters, Sheila Reagan of Boonville, AR and Tammy (James, Jr.) Lindner of Navasota; grandchildren, Harley, Jr., Jordan, Colton, Caitlyn, Briley, Braddux and Bradley; great-grandson, Connor and nieces and nephews, Shanna Sparks, Kelly Pershall, Jessica Ashley, Travis Pershall, Cameron Lindner and Brianna Lindner. He is also survived by a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services for Mike will be held 1 P.M., Friday, November 20, 2020 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Rev. Tim Carter will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Centerville Cemetery. The Roush family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.
