Nan J Hillyer passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023, at the age of 92 in Madisonville, Texas. Nan was born on January 21, 1931, at Memorial Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was Christened at the Episcopal Church in Hempstead, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Growing up in Hockley, Texas, Nan found solace in the arms of her grandparents, Johnny and Winnie Warren, who raised her on the Warren ranch.

Education played a significant role in Nan's life. She began her college journey at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. Nan then embarked on a new chapter as she pursued her Bachelor's degree at the University of Houston, where her thirst for knowledge thrived. She finally matriculated to Concordia Lutheran College in Austin, and through much dedication and hard work, earned a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts.

In matters of the heart, Nan's story had its share of chapters. She married her first husband, John Reese from Waller, Texas, and despite their separation, they remained friends. Nan later met and married Bob Stallman. Although their marriage lasted ten years, the love and lessons shared were forever cherished.

Nan's journey of love led her to Richard Hillyer, her soulmate and life partner. They walked hand in hand, embracing the joys of life together. Their love created a strong and unbreakable bond that lasted until her final moments.

After settling in Centerville, Texas, Nan embarked on her journey as a dedicated emu breeder. Nan's passion for these majestic creatures blossomed, becoming her lifelong occupation. As a self-employed individual, she devoted countless hours to her labor of love in the agriculture industry. Her commitment and knowledge made her a respected figure among her peers.

Her faith was an essential part of Nan's life. She moved her church membership to St. John the Divine Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas, and remained a member until her peaceful passing. Her spirituality was a guiding force, bringing solace and strength during difficult times.

Nan's adventurous spirit was matched only by her resilient nature. She had a zest for life that was contagious, and her radiant smile touched the hearts of all who knew her. Nan's friends and loved ones will forever remember her contagious laughter and genuine warmth.

She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift.

A graveside service will be held to celebrate Nan's remarkable life at the Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery located at 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston, Texas 77055. It will take place on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 1 PM, where Nan will be laid to rest near her beloved grandmother, Winnie.

Nan J. Hillyer will forever be remembered as a kind-hearted, vibrant, and spirited woman who touched the lives of many and whose legacy will forever inspire us to live life to the fullest. May her soul find eternal peace.
