Ray Douglas Sills

Ray Douglas Sills, of Marquez, passed away in the early morning hours of March 12, 2019 in Bryan, Texas at the age of seventy-four. He was born August 6, 1944 in Marquez, Texas, one of five children to parents, Douglas Alfred & Thelma Estelle (Newsom) Sills.

Ray lived and worked in Crosby, Texas for about twenty-two years and was a member of Local 84 Steel Workers Union. Following his retirement in 1984, he moved back to his birth town of Marquez and spent most of the remainder of his working years with James Bumpers’ Construction Company.

Ray enjoyed playing card games and dominoes. He was a family man and loved spending time with his large family, especially his grandchildren.

Ray was preceded in death by both of his parents; brother, Larry Emory Sills; sister, Katherine Oliver and granddaughter, Alice Sills. He leaves behind his wife, Dorothy (Farmer) Sills of Marquez; sons, Ray Douglas Sills of Marquez and Ray Duane Sills (Brandi) of Crosby; daughters, Rachel Lee Jackson (Ricky) and Alice Marie Bush (Robert), all of Crosby and Rhonda Christine Forman of Marquez and sisters, Brenda Barrington (Chuck) of Madisonville and Peggy Campbell (Ray) of Alba. Ray is also survived by grandchildren, April, Brittany, Robbie, Tyler, Tiffany, Carson, Korbyn, Christopher, Danielle, Elizabeth and Brayton, as well as, ten great grandchildren with a new great grandson and great granddaughter happily expected soon.

Funeral services will take place 10 A.M., Friday, March 15, 2019 at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Bro. Lee Weiler will officiate the service, and interment will follow in the Marquez Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 14th from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
