Sara Bess (Shepherd) Hall

November 1, 1928 — October 6, 2019

Sara Bess Shepherd Hall , 90, of College Station, Texas passed away on October 6, 2019, peacefully in her home in College Station, Texas. A funeral service will be held in Centerville, Texas at Walters Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 8 at 3:00 P.M. A private graveside service will follow.

Sara was born in Jewett Texas to Tom and Mabel Shepherd. She married Jack L Hall on November 24, 1948. After they married, Jack and Sara lived in College Station while Jack completed his degree at Texas A&M University. After graduation, Jack and Sara moved briefly to Tyler Texas until a family illness made it necessary for them to move back to Leona to help with the farm and ranch. Sara and Jack raised three daughters in Leona.

Sara loved her life living in the Leona community. It was during these years that she and Jack traveled and enjoyed many adventures together, along with their close friends. Although she moved to College Station to be with her daughters later in life, she never lost the connection to and the love of the life she lived in this small community. She talked of it often and the last trip she ever planned was one more trip back to Leona.

Several years following the sudden death of her husband Jack, Sara moved to College Station to be near her daughters and grandchildren in College Station. During these years she was able to be grandmother and “Mamaw” and enjoyed the times that everyone dropped in to say hello. She had wonderful neighbors in her patio home community. Even though she experienced the loss of her hearing, she loved sitting on her patio, enjoying her beautiful garden and the simple beauty of each day.

Sara is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack, their infant son, Michael and daughter, Bonnie. She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Howell and husband, Robert and daughter, Julie Bennett and husband, Phil, along with seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great, great-grandchildren and her faithful companion Jackson. The family would like to extend their special thanks to her trusted friend and care giver, Joyce Martin, for her assistance and devotion.

Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas is entrusted with final arrangements.
