Shirley Marie (Karcher) Porterfield

Funeral services for Shirley Porterfield, age 75, of Centerville, Texas, will be held 11A.M., Monday, October 22nd 2018 at the Walters Funeral home in Centerville. Pastor Tuffy Loftin, of the Cowboy Church of Leon County, will officiate the service. Mrs. Porterfield will be laid to rest at Bennett Cemetery in Groveton, Texas. A brief visitation is scheduled for Monday at 9 A.M. before the service.

Shirley Marie (Karcher) Porterfield was born March 31st, 1943 in Hawkins, Texas to George William and Otha Lee (Wren) Karcher. After graduating from Aldine High School and Southwestern Business university, she worked in the human resources department in the banking industry and North Harris Community College (now Lone Star College). She raised her family in Humble, Texas and eventually settled in Centerville where she resided with her late husband for twenty-two years.

Shirley enjoyed gardening, painting, fishing, and working on puzzles. However, she enjoyed most of all spending time with all her family together. She treasured each one of her children and grandchildren. She even had a pool built for all of them to enjoy, and she, herself, enjoyed sitting by the pool. She loved animals, especially her dachshunds, chickens, and hummingbirds. She loved to watch them while she had her morning coffee on her back porch.

Shirley passed away suddenly in the early morning of October 16th, 2018 in Madisonville, Texas. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Jack Porterfield; and her sister, Byrna "Bunty" Morrison. Surviving family members include sons, Randy Porterfield of New Caney, Brad Porterfield (Lesa) of Pearland, and Kenneth Porterfield (Elizabeth) of Centerville; sister, Leola Decker of Austin; brother, Ronnie Karcher of Austin; and grandchildren, Justin, Kolton, Tyler, Jaret, Rachael, Logann, and Jacob Porterfield.
