Asa Richard Martinez, 19, of Normangee, Texas, was called home to heaven on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Asa was born on November 22, 2005, in Katy, Texas to Mark and Jessica Martinez. They brought him home on Thanksgiving Day.

He was homeschooled with his sister, Elia, from elementary school through graduation. He attended Classical Conversations homeschool co-op and One Day Academy in Katy, Texas. Asa celebrated his graduation in May 2024, with family and friends. After graduation, he and his mom took a trip to New York City and Washington DC to celebrate.

Asa was a gentle giant at 6'6. He was larger than life, a giant teddy bear who loved making people laugh. He enjoyed helping with the worship slides at Calvary Brazos Valley. He also loved going to youth camp and helping in Sunday School. He was a favorite playmate of all the young boys at church who wanted to play-fight with him like David fighting Goliath.

Asa raised hound dogs and liked hunting with his Treeing Walker, Sammy. Asa and Sammy won the Texas State Youth Hunt together in 2020. He also liked skateboarding, MMA, and was a blue belt in jiu jitsu. He played video games including Apex Legends, with friends.

Asa was a deep thinker who enjoyed books about strategy. He read the Ember Falls series as a child, followed by the Hunger Games series. His favorite television show was Psych.

Asa was currently working at Woody's Smokehouse in the meat department. He had many good friends at Woody's and is deeply missed. He was attending Life Church in Leona with his girlfriend, Hannah.

He is survived by his parents, Mark and Jessica of Normangee, and his sister, Elia. He also leaves his maternal aunt, Rachel Deaton, and cousins, Isabella, Abby, and Chloe; his maternal aunt, Hannah and Matt Aheimer, and cousins, Elijah and Olivia; paternal uncle, Scott and Michelle Martinez and cousins, Scott, Gretchen and Allen. His love for his girlfriend, Hannah Courtney, filled his life with joy. He is also survived by many other family members and dear friends.
