Audee Parker Reed

Listen to Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Audee Parker Reed, 91, who passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026. She was born on November 2, 1934 in Normangee, Texas and was the daughter of Lee Parker and Ruby (Bottoms) Parker.

Audee told many stories of her childhood and youth, especially growing up in a house without electricity, until she was in junior high, chopping cotton and picking cotton on various farms and often having only buttermilk and cornbread for many a meal.

Audee graduated from Normangee High School in 1952, attended Sam Houston College for one year, and then married Edwin Reed in 1954. They were married for sixty-six years until daddy's passing in 2020. They had two children, Roy Edwin Reed, Jr. and Bobbie Elaine (Reed) Glenewinkel.

Our mother was postmaster of the Flynn and Saratoga post officer for over thirty years. She and Edwin purchased Leon Gas Company in 1967, and originally operated the company in the old post office building in Flynn (built in 1920), until one day the commode fell through the floor while she was on it. A decision was made that day to build the new post office in the Leon Gas Company building on Highway 39 in Flynn.

Audee loved her family and enjoyed keeping track of all her nieces and nephews. However, the last few years were difficult as both brothers, Pete Parker and Bob Parker, passed. Also, as most of her close friends moved on. These included Linda (Patterson) Lys, Virginia Reed, Nanett Bennett, among a list of many others. She really was about the last left of a generation that grew up around Normangee and stayed there all of her life. This took a toll on her.

Audee was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Edwin Reed; her grandson, Will Reed; and her son-in-law, Ross Glenewinkel.

Survivors include son, Roy E. Reed, Jr., daughter, Bobbie Glenewinkel; grandson, Ross Clayton Reed and wife, Nancy; and great-grandchildren, Isaac, Marcus, Miles and Lela, along with many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Rachie Bennett, Andy Shannon and Sydney Traylor for comforting Audee during this last year. Special thanks is also to Sandy Prochaska and Ginny Mae Gunther, who took excellent care of her and, no doubt made her last few years as comfortable as possible. Audee will be so missed.

A time of visitation and fellowship in honor of Audee will take place from 10 A.M. until 12 Noon, Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas, where friends and family will gather to celebrate her remarkable life. A meal will be served at Audee's home immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are kindly requested to Flynn Methodist Church, P.O. Box 14, Flynn, Texas 77855 and Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 West 26th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803.

Final arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas--A Walters Family Funeral Home.
