Bessie Irene (Waters) Manning, peacefully passed away on September 6, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 92. Born on March 26, 1933, in Keechi, Texas, Bessie was the beloved daughter of Benojin John and Eva Estelle (Smith) Waters. From her early days, she embodied the spirit of care and love that would define her life.
Bessie dedicated over thirty years of her life to nursing, serving communities in both Kansas and Texas with unwavering compassion. She married Richard Wayne Manning on November 16, 1952, and together they built a life rich with love and shared memories. She was a devoted mother to her children, Debra Martin, Frank Manning, and David Manning, who will forever cherish the lessons she imparted and the warmth she provided.
An excellent caregiver, Bessie also found joy in the simple pleasures of life-fishing and gardening brought her much happiness, allowing her to connect with nature and create beauty in her surroundings. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life; as a longtime and faithful member of New Salem Baptist Church, she found community and solace in her spiritual journey.
Bessie lived the majority of her life in Leon County, Texas, where she touched the hearts of many with her kindness and genuine spirit. Her legacy will continue in the lives of all who had the joy of knowing her.
Bessie was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband, Richard Wayne Manning; and siblings, Willie Mae, John, Bruce, and Mary. She is survived by children, Deborah Ann Martin of Conway Springs, Kansas, Frank Wayne Manning of Conway Springs, Kansas, and David Glen Manning of Centerville, Texas; and granddaughter, Ashley Lynn Manning Stampley of Nashville, Tennessee, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bessie Manning will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
A graveside service honoring Bessie's life will be held 10 A.M., Thursday, September 11, 2025, at New Salem Cemetery. Bro. James Rosier will officiate the service. A time of visitation will take place from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the Manning family kindly requests memorial donations to the Senior Center, 513 Lassater Street, Centerville, Texas 75833.
