It is with profound sadness yet deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Betty Mae (Salter) Dear, who departed this world on June 13, 2026, in Crockett, Texas. Born on April 25, 1935, in Arkansas City, Kansas, Betty’s long and fulfilling journey spanned over nine decades, marked by unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Betty was a consummate homemaker, dedicating her entire life to the nurturing and care of her husband and children. This selfless commitment defined much of her existence, as she created a warm and loving sanctuary for those she held dear. Together with her late husband, Clyde Monroe Dear Sr., Betty made the intentional choice to move from Pasadena to Leon County following his retirement, seeking a gentler pace of life that afforded them the chance to savor each moment more fully.
Though not as gregarious as her husband, Betty possessed a quiet warmth and enjoyed the companionship of neighbors in Leon County. Her faith was a cornerstone of her daily life; as an active and devoted member of Victory Baptist Church, she cherished attending services whenever her health permitted, finding solace and strength within its congregation.
Among Betty’s many joys was her passion for tending to her flower gardens, where she found peace and beauty blossoming under her careful hands. In addition to her gardening, she was an exceptional cook, renowned especially for the wedding cakes she lovingly baked for numerous family members over the years—an expression of her artistry and affection.
Betty leaves behind a loving legacy through her daughters, Carolyn Rains and her husband, Don of Crockett, and Barbara Conti of West Point. Her spirit continues through her grandchildren: Misty Latham (W.P.), Richard Hunt II (Jayda), Michael Morris (Natalyia), Shelley Rains, Bradley Rains (Rhonda), and Colby Rains (Misty). The family’s lineage extends even further to include numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, a testament to Betty’s enduring influence.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ralph Vernon Salter Sr. and Bessie Jane (Williams) Salter; her cherished husband, Clyde Monroe Dear Sr.; their son, Clyde Monroe Dear Jr.; siblings, Doris Jane Salter, James William Salter, and Ralph Vernon Salter Jr.; and her son-in-law, Larry Conti.
Betty Mae Dear’s life was one of steadfast dedication, quiet grace, and heartfelt love. Her memory will forever illuminate the lives she touched, reminding all who knew her of the profound beauty found in devotion and service. May her soul rest peacefully, embraced by the same serenity and warmth she so generously shared with others.
A graveside service honoring Betty's life will be held 10 A.M., Wednesday June 17, 2026, at Salter Cemetery in Oakwood, Texas. Rev. Bobby Burlesonwill officiate the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
