Betty Carol
Smith
February 27, 1946 — September 2, 2026
Leona, Texas
Betty Carol (Young) Smith, was born on February 27, 1946, in Houston, Texas, and passed away on September 2, 2026, in Leona, Texas. She was ushered into heaven surrounded by the love of those she held dear.
Betty’s life was marked by creativity, devotion, and a gift for connecting with others. She was raised in Lufkin, Texas, where she lived with her mother, her brother Charlie, and her grandparents. In her early teens, she, her mother, and Charlie moved back to Houston. After high school, she went to work at an architecture firm and was part of the work connected to the Astrodome, a remarkable beginning that reflected both her diligence and her eye for detail.
In 1971, Betty married Charles Smith, beginning a partnership filled with joy and shared adventure. Together, they spent their evenings dancing in competitions around the Houston area, earning many trophies along the way. In 1977, they moved to Centerville, where Betty would go on to build another beautiful chapter of her life. In 1981, she opened the Blossom Shop and served as a florist for twenty years. She loved interacting with people there, and through her work she brought beauty, comfort, and celebration into the lives of so many.
Her creativity reached far beyond her profession. Betty loved to quilt and was an expert seamstress; she spent much of her free time in her sewing room, always creating. This was one of her proudest joys. She especially looked forward each year to attending the Quilt Show with friends, a tradition that reflected both her artistry and the friendships she cherished.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Smith of Centerville; her brother, Charlie Young of Centerville; and her mother, Dorothy Young of Houston.
She leaves behind a family who will carry her memory forward with love: her son, Chad Smith (Kimberly) of Centerville; her bonus daughter, Renee (Stephanie) of Spring; and her bonus son, Randy “Bubba” Smith (Valerie) of Centerville, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In their lives, and in the many memories they shared with her, Betty’s warmth, creativity, and loving spirit will continue to be felt.
A visitation will take place on September 14, 2026, from 1 P.M. to service time at Cowboy Church of Leon County, Centerville, Texas, followed by a funeral service at 2 P.M. at the same location. Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Bryan Young, Charles Teese, Brent Kornegay, Martin Boren, John Wells, Russell Edwards
