On September 3, 2025, the world lost a remarkable soul, David Conley Davis, who passed away peacefully at the age of 81 in Groesbeck, Texas. David was born on August 24, 1944, in Stephenville, Texas, to William L. and Maude (Bennett) Davis. His family moved to Houston when he was just eleven years old, where he would go on to make lasting memories and friendships.
A talented athlete, David excelled in baseball, earning the distinction of being selected for the 1957 All Star Team. He proudly graduated from Sam Houston High School in Houston. While attending church at Burbank Church of Christ, he met the love of his life Sandra Ellis. He was only fifteen and she was thirteen. Their bond, founded in their youth, blossomed into a loving partnership, and they shared countless cherished moments together over the years.
David served six years in the Air Force Reserves, demonstrating his dedication to his country and community. Upon completion of his service he spent thirty-seven years with CenterPoint Energy, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. Beyond his professional accomplishments, David was a passionate advocate for youth sports, dedicating over thirty years to coaching Little League Baseball and inspiring countless young athletes. He was well known for his marvelous sense of humor and stories.
His interests extended beyond the baseball diamond; David was an avid hunter, a devoted college football fan, and an enthusiastic gardener who also found joy in tending to his cattle. He possessed a remarkable talent for fixing anything that came his way, embodying a resourceful spirit that his family and friends admired. David's love for animals extended to all creatures, both domestic and local wildlife, ensuring that his home was a sanctuary for all.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Davis of Centerville, who has shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and unwavering support with him; sons, Hector Davis of Franklin and Bill Davis and wife, Karly of Georgetown; grandchildren, Sid, Graham, Kassidy, and Conley Davis; as well as a multitude of extended family and special friends. His family, friends, and the many lives he touched will forever remember him for his kindness, humor, and generous spirit.
A funeral service honoring David's life will be held 10 A.M., Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Boyd King, minister of the Church of Christ, Centerville, Texas, will officiate the service. A graveside service will follow at 3 P.M. in Hightower Cemetery, Morgan Mill, Texas. A brief visitation will take place from 9 A.M. to service time Saturday morning at the funeral home.
In this time of reflection, let us remember the love, joy, and memories he brought to every life he touched. David Conley Davis leaves behind a legacy that will continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in peace.
