Donald Keith "Don" Payne

Graveside services for Don Payne, age 86, will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Old Bowling Cemetery, Leon County, Texas. Rob Rolinson will officiate the service. A time of fellowship and visitation will take place Friday, November 11th from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.

Donald Keith "Don" Payne was born March 18, 1936 in the Old Bowling Community, Leon County, Texas. His parents were Claude Thomas & Winnie Ida (Neyland) Payne. Don was a lifelong resident of Leon County where he retired as a manager from the Highway Safety Department, Buffalo, Texas. He enjoyed his retired years working as a cattleman. Don's family was most important to him, coming second only to his love for the Lord. In his younger years, Don had enjoyed watching his children in their various sports activities growing up. Later, when Don became a grandfather, his grandchildren became the light of his life. He loved spending quality time with each of them, as well as his great-grandchildren.

Don passed away at 11:39 A.M., November 8, 2022 in College Station, Texas. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; wife of fifty-six years, Rita Joy Payne; and siblings, James Claude Payne; Frances Duncan, Kathleen Odle, Mary Evelyne Hoke and Joy LaQuita Simpson.

Surviving family members include sons, Claude Dennis "Denny" Payne & wife, Shelly Jo of Old Bowling, Steven Lester Payne & wife, Kimberly of Old Bowling and Donald "Chris" Payne & wife, Crista of Robbins; ten grandchildren, Jared Leigh Payne, Candice Ann Ieppert, Josh Wesley Payne, Steven Ryan Payne, Blake Lyndon Payne, Price Turner Payne, Calee Jo Payne, J.T. Jones, Cooper Douglas Jones and Zak Thomas Payne; four great-grandchildren, Elijah Graham Ieppert, Ella Claire Ieppert, Krisley Rae Payne and Carter Ray Satterwhite, with another great-grandson, Truett Wade Payne, on the way. Don also leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends, including special friend, Marie Bewley of Bryan.
