With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald Lee "DJ" Martin Jr., a beloved husband, father, and friend, who left this world on May 19, 2025, at the age of 46. Born on October 3, 1978, in Houston, Texas, to Donald Sr. and Theresa (Emerson) Martin, DJ was a man who lived life on his own terms, balancing a rugged exterior with a heart that overflowed with love and compassion.
DJ married his best friend and soulmate, Monica White, on March 31, 2007. Together, they built a life steeped in love and laughter, defying the challenges that life presented. Known for his steadfast loyalty, once you were fortunate enough to befriend DJ, you had a friend for life. He never turned away from those he cared for, no matter the storms that came their way.
Throughout his life, DJ faced numerous health issues and obstacles, yet he met each one with grace and determination. He refused to let any challenge diminish his spirit; instead, he sought to create a better life for his family. DJ happily took in and raised children from extended family as his own, exhibiting his open and generous heart, and nurturing those around him with unwavering dedication.
A skilled tradesman, DJ was a certified plumber who earned trust and respect from friends and colleagues alike. He worked tirelessly to ensure his children learned the value of hard work and craftsmanship, sharing summer days side by side with his younger son, creating memories that would forever be cherished.
Most importantly, DJ was a man of faith. He spent many hours studying the word of the Lord, seeking to grow in understanding and love. His soul resonated with melodies of praise; his spirit was a testament to his deep relationship with Jesus.
DJ leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering strength, cherished by his beautiful wife and best friend, Monica Martin; three amazing children, Cody, Josh, and Jenn Martin; sweet pets, Pearl, Waylon, and Gannon; parents, Donald Sr. and Theresa Martin; brother, Josh Martin and wife, Laura; nieces, Ezri and Ellaria; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Wayne and Beth White; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Wesley and Stephanie Pershall; nephews, Austin and Landon; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Gerardo & Jessica Pearson; nephews and niece, Nathaniel, Izaiah, Gabriel, and Audrianna; many aunts, uncles, and second cousins who shared in DJ's life; as well as many more who were blessed to know him. He was not boastful, yet he would have given the shirt off his back to help those in need.
DJ was preceded in death by son, Dayten Martin; paternal grandparents, Jr. and Bobbie Martin; maternal grandparents, Charles and Alice Emerson; and great-grandparents, Papa and Ruby Wooten
