Ellen Agnes Swinhoe, née Monroe, born on June 26, 1929, in Archer City, Texas, departed this world with serenity on August 18, 2026, in Marquez, Texas. Ellen’s remarkable journey spanned nearly a century—a tapestry woven with devotion, perseverance, and the quiet strength that so often defined her gentle spirit. At the time of her peaceful passing, in the presence of loved ones, was faithfully by her side, exemplifying the love and closeness that Ellen so deeply cherished throughout her life.

Ellen’s story began amidst the sweeping vistas of northern Texas, her early years shaped by her family—the Monroe and Spencer lines—whose warmth instilled in her a profound appreciation for kinship and heritage. Ellen eventually found solace and purpose in nurturing a family of her own.

Her journey as Ellen Agnes Monroe transformed with her marriage to Arthur Swinhoe. Together, they built a home where they raised their children—Barbara Little (husband, the late Arthur "Art"), the late Arthur Swinhoe Jr. (wife, Mary), Walter Swinhoe (wife, Courtney), Dale Swinhoe (wife, Debbie), and Mark Swinhoe (wife, Monica), and Ellen’s capacity for compassion and steady leadership shaped her role as mother, and in time, her family blossomed further.

Ellen wore her matriarchal mantle with grace, guiding not only her children but an ever-growing legacy that would include her treasured grandchildren: Craig (Kimberly), Brian, Stuart, Codie (Ethan), Martie, Shelbie, Justin (Brooke), Andrew (Micah), Payton and Logan, and granddaughter-in-law, Qwolette. To this vibrant tapestry she welcomed even more luminous joy in her great-grandchildren, C.J. (Brittni), Caleb (Cheyenne), Kandace (Scott), Brooke, Charlie, Barrett, Marjorie, Emery, Ledger and Addie, as well as great-great-grandchildren, Paisli, Russell, Charlotte, Josephine and MJ, each a testament to the enduring bonds she so gently cultivated. Her love for family was the guiding star of her life; in gatherings replete with laughter and gentle wisdom, Ellen’s presence was the steadying anchor.

Among those who survive Ellen are her devoted children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She joins in eternal rest her husband Arthur; their son Arthur Jr.; her parents, Elza and Blanche; her brothers, Herman and Aubrey; her son-in-law, Arthur Little; and her grandson, Stuart Little—each a dearly missed presence already carried tenderly in Ellen’s heart.

A memorial service celebrating Ellen's remarkable life will be held 2 P.M., Saturday, September 5, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Jewett, Jewett, Texas, the very place where she made many dear friends and found immense joy in fellowship amongst her church family.
