Eunice (Shaw) Carrigan, age 93, passed away April 18, 2022 in Centerville, Texas. She was born January 1, 1929 to William Henry & Mary (Barnett) Shaw in Flo, Texas. Eunice was raised in the Flo Community. She was a lifelong resident of Leon County, Texas and a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Centerville Texas. She married James Milton Carrigan on November 16, 1947. Eunice did bookkeeping work for various businesses in Centerville, including Carrigan Feed Store. She attended Cosmetology school when their children were young, and became a Beautician, opening Eunice’s Beauty Shop at their home in Centerville. In her later years, Eunice was employed as a door-greeter at Madisonville Wal-Mart and worked there for over 15 years.
Eunice was proud to be a Flo, Texas native and exhibited this through her many years of supporting the Lone Star School and Flo Community activities. She always cherished the fact that her baptism took place in Wheelock Creek. When she was younger, Eunice enjoyed flower arranging and sewing. She was active in 4-H Leadership, and loved canning and cooking. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed taking care of her many grandchildren throughout their lives. She was devoted to spending time with her husband Milton after his retirement and in her later years, Eunice loved bird watching, especially Hummingbirds and Cardinals.
Eunice was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband, James Milton Carrigan; daughter, Gay Nell Clossin, great-grandson, Jaxson Matthews, siblings, Albert Shaw, Edward Shaw and Audrey Mae Pate, brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law Roy and Ruth Carrigan and Grace and Willis Younkin, and niece, Anita Carrigan.
Surviving family members include children, Robert “Bobby” Carrigan & wife, Esther of College Station, Elois Kraatz & husband, Donald of Victoria, Emmie Sue Carrigan of Round Rock, Rebecca “Becky” Carruthers & husband, Justin of Huntsville, Ben Carrigan & wife, Nicole of Centerville, and Jimmy Carrigan & wife, Emma of Centerville; brother, Frank Shaw of Midland; half-sister, Billie Hays of Buffalo; grandchildren, Beth Ann Carrigan Carnes (Cameron), Robert Carrigan (Toni), Joy Kraatz Rhodes (Tom), Jeremy Kraatz (Rebecca), Kristin Rae Kraatz Walker (Jeff), Shea Clossin Nichols (Jerry), Brooke Clossin Smith (Ashley), Mia Mayo, Meagan Mayo, Chase Carrigan (Kristin), Morgan Carrigan Johnson (James), Kailey Carrigan Byrd (Johnny), Chance Carrigan (McKenzie), Nathan Carrigan (Krista), Elizabeth Lee (Nicholas), Shawn Lee, niece, Mary Carrigan, nephew Roy B. Carrigan (Sharon) and numerous great-grandchildren, and other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Our family would like to express a special thanks to her caregivers, Carol Gwodz, Melanie Parker, Tisha Spinks, Alleen Daniel & Wannell Brumley for their lovingkindness and friendship to our mother and appreciation to the employees of Centerville Healthcare Center, and Casey Holden of Allumine Health Home Health & Hospice.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Leon County Meals on Wheels organization.
Funeral services honoring Eunice’s life will be held 10 A.M., Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Pastor of First Baptist Church, Tony Moye, will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Centerville Cemetery, Centerville, Texas. The public is invited to attend a visitation that will take place the evening of Friday, April 22nd from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
