Gerald Mac "Jerry" Thomason

Gerald Mac "Jerry" Thomason passed away on July 11, 2023 from natural causes at the age of seventy-three. He was born November 27, 1949 in Austin, Texas. He grew up in Austin and graduated from J.H. Regan High School in 1968. He graduated from Southwest Texas University in San Marcos, Texas.

Jerry worked for the City of Austin for many years. He enjoyed music and riding his horses on his ranch outside of Centerville, Texas. Jerry was a long-time advocate for progressive causes. Over the course of his life, he donated a lot of time and money supporting causes and charities that were near and dear to his heart. He was an active member of Austin's Peace and Justice Coalition and was, for many years, the voice of Harry Ashburn on public access radio.

Jerry had a quick and wry wit and he always loved a good pun. Jerry was generous and kind and loved visiting with his closest friends and family. Throughout his life, Jerry was active politically and was a staunch supporter of candidates and causes that promoted and supported the underprivileged and disadvantaged.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Bill Thomason and Fay Maddox Thomason. He is survived by two brothers, Paul Thomason, New Mexico and Lee Thomason, Maine.

Jerry will be laid to rest at the New Salem Cemetery in the Centerview Community of Leon County, Texas on July 29, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on July 29, 2023 at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jerry's name to the Centerville, Texas Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1429, Centerville, Texas 75833.
