Homegoing services for James "Duke" Washington, age 72, will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Interment will be in the Culton Cemetery in Leona, Texas. A brief visitation will take place from 9 A.M. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
James Washington was born September 4, 1945, in Leona, Texas to Sid and Mordell Washington. James Accepted Christ at an early age and attended Hillary United Methodist Church in Leona, Texas. He also attended public school in Leona, Texas.
James was employed at R.T. Keeling and Son. Later, he moved to Houston, Texas and worked for RCA Transportation. He married Joyce Morris, and they moved to Los Angeles, California. Later, he moved back to Normangee, Texas. James’ favorite hobby was playing dominoes.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Sid ande Mordell Washington; sisters, Willie Lanford, Texanna Clarke, Elvester Courtney, Louise Washington Jones and Gloria Lacy; brothers, Joe Lee, Coakie, Curtis, Kirby, Willie C, Sammy Lee, Sid, Jr. and a host of nieces and nephews.
He leaves to cherish his memories three sisters, Nina Faye, Pheobie Lipscomb and Nadine Lewis; three brothers, L.J., Truman (Betty) and Walter (Eunice); god-brother, Sonny Cooper (Brenda); three god-daughters, Iris Dotson, T Baby and Demetria Reed and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. James is also survived by a special friend, Georgia Wade, who took care of him during his sickness.
Arrangements are entrusted to Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas.
