On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, James Douglas Bladen, loving father, beloved brother, admired uncle, and adored friend, passed away at the age of 65.

James was born on October 14, 1953 in Centerville, TX to Alson and Beatrice (Johnson) Bladen. He attended Fredrick Douglas High School until integration and graduated from Centerville High School in 1972. Following graduation, he attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX.

James moved to South Carolina where he met Sandra Boykins. On October 14, 1977, they married and raised one son, Courtney.

James was a welder and fitter for over 20 years. He had an extraordinary passion for his family. Whether it was a family history lesson, grilling or cooking instruction, personal guidance, or a card/dominoes partner, he was always available to stand in. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He will be remembered most for his quick wit, his willingness to help whenever needed, and his kind and giving spirit.

James was preceded in death by his father, Alson Bladen, mother, Beatrice (Johnson) Bladen, brothers, Benjamin Bladen, Ernest Bladen and Alson Bladen Jr., and sister, Clara Brown. He is survived by his son, Courtney Bladen (Dallas, Texas), former wife and good friend, Sandra Bladen (Dallas, Texas), brother, Billy Bladen (Dallas, Texas), sisters, Ella Faye Richardson (Whittier, California) and Bobbie Bladen Bowens (Dallas, Texas), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Homegoing services for James are scheduled for 2 P.M., Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Interment will follow in Ward Cemetery in the Ridge Community of Leon County. A brief visitation will take place from 10 A.M. to service time, Sunday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are entrusted to Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas.
