James Doss Douthitt

James Doss "J.D." Douthitt departed this life on May 18, 2025, at the age of 85 years. He was born on May 7, 1940, in Flynn, Texas, to the late Averil and Mary (Grimes) Douthitt. Raised in the Flynn area, J.D. was a proud graduate of Normangee High School, where he laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and dedication.

Baptized at an early age in Clear Creek, J.D. carried his faith with him throughout his life. Following high school, he moved to the Houston area, where he owned and operated Head & Guild Parts, a reputable heavy equipment parts store, for an impressive fifty years. His work not only exemplified his commitment to his craft but also set a standard of integrity in the industry.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, J.D. was a passionate rancher who deeply enjoyed tending to his cattle and horses. He continued to ride into his early eighties, a testament to his zest for life and love of the land. He was also a dedicated member of the local masonic lodge as a 32nd Degree Mason, where he fostered community and camaraderie.

For the past fifteen years, J.D. resided in College Station, Texas, where he continued to impact those around him with his warmth, humor, and generosity. J.D. was preceded in death by both of his parents; daughter, Christine Russell; siblings, Faye Hodges, Mary Helen Grimes, and Dwane Douthitt. He is survived by son, Mark Douthitt (Janet) of Pasadena; friend and caregiver, Melva McDonald of College Station; grandchildren, Victoria (Cameron) Payne of Pasadena, Melody Douthitt of Oregon, Dr. James Dylan Douthitt of New York, and Christopher Brodine of Alvin; great-grandchildren, Aubree, Alice, and Colton Payne; and sister, Irlin Sapp of Flynn; as well as a host of extended family and friends who will cherish his memory and the lessons he imparted.

A funeral service honoring J.D.'s remarkable life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 10 AM at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Visitation will take place prior to the service, beginning at 9 AM. Following the ceremonies, James will be laid to rest in Bethesda Cemetery near Hilltop Lakes reuniting with his loved ones who preceded him in death.

J.D. will be dearly missed by all who knew him, and his legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of his family and friends.

Final arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
