Jean Lowe Rappolee

February 4, 1926 — July 4, 2022

Jean Lowe Rappolee was born February 4, 1926 in Dallas, Texas. His parents were Jean Lucian & Bess Aileen (Lowe) Rappolee. Jean proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, during WWII, enlisting July 30, 1943. He was a Field Lineman and Private First Class with the Headquarters Company 1st Battalion 386th Infantry. Jean was honorably discharged November 7, 1945. Following Jean's service to his country, he graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He went on to work and retire as a chemist in the steel industry.

Jean and his wife, Marjorie, moved to Centerville in January of 1984, coming from Channelview, where they had raised their family. Long before moving to Centerville, and long after, Jean enjoyed raising a large vegetable garden every year. It produced an abundance of vegetables which Jean enjoyed sharing with his children, grandchildren and friends. He also spent many an hour assisting his wife in their beautiful flower beds. He and his wife were afforded the wonderful opportunity to travel to many, many places over the years of his retirement, and they did so wholeheartedly including a lot of "road tripping."

Jean was a family man and most loved the times he was able to spend with all of his family. He was also a strong man, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. He was a pillar of strength for many and leaves behind a lasting legacy for future generations.

Jean passed away July 4, 2022 at his home in Centerville. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; daughter, Carol (Rappolee) DeSpain, son-in-law, Ron DeSpain and brother, Edgar Allen Rappolee. Surviving family members include devoted wife of 70 years, Marjorie Rappolee of Centerville; children, Dickie Rappolee (Paulette), Nancy Mitchell (Michael) and Jo Williams (Richard) all of Centerville and grandchildren, Rhonda Bourgeois, Mandy Rappolee, Sheila Christian, Jesse DeSpain, Jennifer Williams, Steven Rappolee, Carol Jo Christian, Amy Hiller, Cody DeSpain, Morgan Roe and Marcus Williams, as well as numerous great-grandchildren and extended family members.
