Born on November 15, 1942, in Houston, Texas, Jerry's roots ran deep in the small town of Leona where he spent his formative years.
Jerry was a proud graduate of Centerville High School, class of 1960. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy on October 4, 1960 and devoted three years of active service to his country until his honorable discharge on November 11, 1963. His service continued as a Naval Reservist until October 3, 1966.
Jerry developed a strong work ethic early on, helping his father and uncles on their farm, tending to animals, and cultivating the land. He spent his youth and teenage years working at chicken farms and baling hay for local ranchers, and even assisted his father in running a laundry business. Jerry's fond memories of rural life were evident in his spirit; he longed to return home to the simplicity and beauty of the country, sharing those joys with his family and their children.
Over his career, Jerry dedicated thirty-six years of service as a pipefitter with Champion Paper and later transitioned into diesel mechanics with Sentinel Transportation, retiring at the age of 69. His commitment to hard work was reflected in every aspect of his life. A man of many passions, Jerry loved hunting and was an avid fan of dirt track racing, which blossomed into a later love for drag racing. These interests not only brought him happiness but also served as a way to bond with his family and create lasting memories.
Jerry is remembered fondly by his devoted wife of sixty-three years, Mallisa McRee, and their three children, Mike McRee (Sandy), Alan McRee (Mindy), and Josh McRee (Chrissy).
