Funeral services for Joe Roberts, Sr., 72, of Magnolia, will be held at 4 P.M., Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the Willowhole Cemetery Chapel in North Zulch.  Rev. A.J. McGuirt will officiate, and interment will follow in the Willowhole Cemetery.  A public visitation will take place from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. on Tuesday, March 14th at the Madisonville Funeral Home.
Joe Layne Roberts, Sr. was born on April 6, 1944 in Madisonville, Texas to Robert Homer & Ella Rae (Batson) Roberts.  He was raised in Normangee and was a graduate of Normangee High School.  He also served his country in the United States Army for three years.  Joe began work for Cameron Iron Works as a welder and later retired as a planner and coordinator for maintenance after thirty-seven years.  Joe was a member of Central Baptist Church in Magnolia where he served as a deacon and music leader.  He had lived in Magnolia for the past forty-three years and enjoyed fishing, and especially hunting.
Joe passed away on March 11, 2017 at his home in Magnolia.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents; three brothers, Gene Carl, Robert Ray & Johnny Lee Roberts and sister, Annie Vivian Roberts.  He is survived by his loving wife, Jimmy Roberts of Magnolia; son, Joe Layne Roberts, Jr. (Karen) of Rome, GA; daughter, Mary Jane Jenkins (Tommy Carl, Jr.) of McAlester, OK; brother, William Pete Roberts (Janice) of Normangee; sister, Joyce Marie Jackson of Hempstead and granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Chacon.  Joe is also survived by three great grandchildren, Isabell Jade Aaron, Lillian Carol Chacon & Zane Lee Chacon.
Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville, Texas is in charge of all arrangements.
