Funeral services for Joseph Murphrey, Jr., age 61, will be held 2 P.M., Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Interment will follow in New Salem Cemetery, east of Centerville in the Centerview Community. Visitation will be held prior to the service Saturday from 10 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Joseph Sylvester Murphrey, Jr. was born June 27, 1958 in Houston, Texas to Joseph Murphrey, Sr. & Shirley Pounds. He worked as a truck driver for thirty-nine years and truly loved his job. “Lil’ Joe” was an outdoorsman. Any time away from his job was spent outside fishing, hunting, gardening and working on his property. “Lil’ Joe” was a family man and loved spending time with them. He didn’t have a greedy bone in his body, but was a giving person, and shared whatever he had with anyone who needed it.

“Lil’ Joe” passed away January 22, 2020 at his home. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Murphrey, Sr.; mother & step-father, Shirley & John Thomas “Pops” McVey; son, James Daniel Murphrey; granddaughter, Ashtion Murphrey and sisters, Cynthia Willis, Arlene Chandler and Betty Aills.

Surviving family members include wife, Audrey Murphrey of Centerville; daughter, Cheri Knoblauch of Houston; son, Garrett Murphrey of Conroe; grandchildren, Reagann, Charleigh, Rory, Tristan, Ashley, Gunner, Chasity, Skye, Hope, Faith, Trinity and Shannon; sister, Patsy Willis (Johnny) of Centerville and brothers, Jerry Murphrey of Ace and John Thomas McVey, Jr. of Livingston. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
