LaShawn (Pickett) Myers was born in Kansas City, Kansas April 19, 1959 to James R., Sr. & Lillian (Gurka) Pickett. She was raised in Houston, Texas and graduated from Aldine High School. Shawn worked for the family exterminating business as and exterminator for over thirty years. Growing up, she enjoyed spending time with her siblings and her cousins. After her parents purchased land in Leon County, going to “the country” was what she loved most. She raised her daughter as a single mom and never skipped a beat doing it. Her daughter was her life, her pride and joy. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do for her Missy. Later down the road came Walyn...LaShawn’s new joy in life. Her love for her grandson was BIG.
LaShawn had one of the biggest hearts. She enjoyed making people smile with her love, gifts, and her outgoing personality. If you knew her, you have memories of laughing so hard you cried.
Shawn was lucky to grow up in the seventies. She lived the city and country life making her a little hippie and a little country. She had the best of both worlds. When you hear some Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Conway Twitty or George Jones, think of LaShawn.
In 2011, LaShawn was diagnosed with a terrible genetic disease that eventually led to her passing on July 21, 2020.
LaShawn is no longer suffering and is free once again. She will live on in the hearts of her loved ones for eternity.
LaShawn was preceded in death by her father, James R. Pickett, Sr.; brother, James R. Pickett, Jr.; sisters, Jami & Sheila Pickett; husband, Mike Myers; son-in-law, Kris McCall and life-long best friend, Diane Stanberry. Her surviving family includes mother, Lillian Pickett; daughter, Melissa “Missy” McCall and grandson, Walyn McCall, all of Centerville. She is also survived by aunt, Marlene Pickett of Centerville; uncle and aunt, Harlon, Sr. & Georgetta Pickett; aunt, Marie Bauer of Texas; uncle and aunt, Calvin & Sally Gurka of Texas; niece, Sasha Giovanelli; nephew, Christopher Pickett; great niece, Cecillia Watson, as well as numerous cousins and lifelong friends.
