Graveside services for Katie Payne, 84, of the Old Bowling Community in Leon County, Texas will be held 10 A.M., Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Old Bowling Cemetery. Bro. Ben David Watson & Bro. Ray Dean Payne will officiate the service. There will be no public visitation.
Laura Kate Payne was born August 31, 1937 in Old Bowling to Herbert Lee & Willie Mae (Morse) Payne. She attended Concord School and graduated from Centerville High School. She had lived in Beaumont and Old Bowling and was a homemaker most of her life. Katie also worked in the Real Estate business for a short time. Katie enjoyed fishing in her younger years and remained an active person throughout her life. She enjoyed playing bridge, dominos and bunco. She attended church at Clear Creek Baptist Church and was a member of the Old Bowling School Restoration Organization. Katie passed away September 20, 2021 in Temple, Texas. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; son, Gary Wade Hillman and sisters, Else Merle (Payne) Winstead and Jo Ann (Payne) Watson.
Surviving family members include son Ronnie Hillman & wife, Kay of Old Bowling; sister, Janice Castles & husband, Glenn of Buffalo; grandchildren, Travis Wayne Hillman of Old Bowling, Sarah Kate Hillman of Old Bowling, Danielle Hillman of Ohio, Jason Smith & wife, Christina of Silsbee and Jamie Patton & husband, Joshua of Old Bowling, as well as great-grandchildren, Jase Adin Smith, Charley Ann Smith and Stazja Patton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Old Bowling School, 13387 CR 344, Marquez, Texas 77865.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
