Don Ferguson

November 13, 1962 — May 6, 2024

Centerville

Marshall Don Ferguson was born in Kenner, Louisiana on November 13, 1962.  He grew up in the beautiful community of Denson Springs, Texas and made many cherished memories with family and friends there. He graduated from Slocum High School in 1981.

Following graduation, Don began working for Texas Power and Light as a lineman. He spent the next 41 years working many long days and stormy nights to keep the lights on throughout Houston, Leon, and Anderson counties. He once said that what he enjoyed most about being a lineman was the moment, particularly on the nights that were dark and stormy, when he would flip the final switch and the lights would come back on. The relief and joy he could bring to people through his work meant so much to him. He received numerous safety awards and was a highly skilled lineman when he retired from Oncor Electric Delivery in 2022.

Don loved to hunt. He said the time he spent alone in his deer stand was his favorite time to spend with the Lord. He enjoyed deer season locally, but the annual dove hunt that he helped organize was one of his favorite activities of the year. He liked to fish and just ride around enjoying nature on the buggy. He really loved trips to Colorado to hunt, enjoy the mountains, gaze at the stars, and help Eddie and Tricia Hammock work on their cabin. Spending time with friends and family was one of his favorite things, whether it was just sitting around a fire talking and having fun, working cows, or just sitting at the house talking about different garden tricks or recipes he found on Facebook.

Don was a Christian and Baptist by faith. He attended First Baptist Church in Centerville, Texas for many years. Throughout his battle with cancer, he grew deeper in his relationship with the Lord and peacefully went to his heavenly home on May 6, 2024.

Don was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Richie.

He is survived by Robbie Ferguson (wife), Jamie Ferguson (daughter), Curtis Ferguson (father), Rickey (brother) and Donna Ferguson (sister in-law), Loren Ferguson (niece), and Bryce Ferguson (nephew), and numerous friends and extended family who loved him deeply.
