Listen to Obituary

Mary Alice Parker, née Allen, passed away on June 3, 2026, in Normangee, Texas. Born on August 16, 1943, in Baytown, Texas, Mary lived a life marked by devotion, hard work, and an enduring love for her family.

Mary’s early years were spent as a resident of Houston, where she laid the foundation for a life filled with care and commitment to those around her. She pursued higher learning at San Jacinto Junior College, gaining knowledge and skills that would accompany her throughout her journey. Mary dedicated many years working as a secretary for the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center until her retirement, a role in which she exemplified diligence and professionalism.

Following their retirement, Mary and her beloved husband, Harold Lee “Pete” Parker, returned to Pete’s hometown of Normangee to embrace a quieter life enriched by community and faith. A faithful member of Flynn Assembly of God Church, Mary found fellowship and spiritual comfort that accompanied her through her later years.

Mary’s personality shone through in her unwavering dedication to family and her nurturing spirit. She was a woman who worked tirelessly and cared deeply for those she loved. One of her greatest joys was scrapbooking—an art she treasured for its ability to capture memories, which she lovingly crafted into keepsakes for her family.  Additionally, Mary spent many hours working in her vegetable garden. Together with her late husband Pete, Mary traveled extensively across the United States, including a memorable trip to Alaska to visit family. Their home was often filled with laughter and friendly competition over rounds of 42, shared with close friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband Pete; her parents, Margaret Carmen (Birdine) Allen and Hollis Holder Allen; and her children, Doris and Douglas Owen. She is survived by cherished brothers, Guye Langford Allen of Normangee and John David Allen (wife Cynthia) of Sterling, Alaska; her sister, Martha Townsend of Idaho; and a large and loving family that includes fifteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. In her home, her beloved cats, Amy Lou and Doolittle, brought her comfort and companionship.

A visitation to honor Mary’s life will take place on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M., followed by a funeral service at 11 A.M., both held at Flynn Assembly of God Church, 7344 SH 39, Flynn, Texas 77855.

Mary Alice Parker’s legacy is one of heartfelt devotion—to family, faith, and the simple joys of life. Her gentle strength, warmth, and dedication remain an enduring inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
