Mary John Walters, née Pinkston, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, in Centerville, Texas, surrounded by the loving presence of her family. Born on September 5, 1938, in Chinero, Texas, Mary’s life was a tapestry rich with dedication, warmth, and profound connection.
For the past three decades, Mary made Centerville her home, having journeyed from Spring, Texas. Her steadfast faith was reflected through her active membership at the First United Methodist Church in Centerville, where she found spiritual solace and fellowship. Her deep-rooted commitment to her church and community was evident to all who knew her.
Mary's life was marked by adventure and an insatiable curiosity about the world. Alongside her late husband, Donald Allen Walters, she traveled extensively, exploring distant lands and crafting memories that spanned the globe. These journeys, shared with her devoted companion, enriched her spirit and broadened her horizons in ways that infused her later years with stories and wisdom.
Family was the cornerstone of Mary’s existence, and she treasured her role as mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her sons, Scott O'Neal Walters of Centerville and Randall Allen Walters of Willis; her daughter, Brenda Kay Stein of Spring; and her sister, Sue Nason of Nacogdoches. The legacy of Mary’s love continues vibrantly through her seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, each carrying a piece of her generous heart and enduring spirit.
Mary was preceded in death by both of her parents, Lawrence O'Neal and Lola Jane (Menefee) Pinkston, as well as by her beloved husband, Donald Allen Walters, whose partnership and love remain indelible in the hearts of all who witnessed their shared journey.
A memorial service celebrating Mary’s remarkable life will be held at 11 AM., Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. It will be an occasion for family, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness and resilience to gather, remember, and honor the enduring legacy of a woman whose presence was a blessing to many.
