Funeral services for Melvene W. Brantley, age 75, will be held 2 P.M., Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Interment will follow in North Creek Cemetery in rural eastern Leon County. The Brantley family will receive friends Wednesday, January 27th from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Melvene W. Brantley was born February 27, 1945 in DeQuincy, Louisiana to Melvin & Myrtle (Furlow) Whittington. In her younger years she was involved in Women's Ranch rodeo competitions. She and her late husband, James, moved to Leon County in 1993. Melvene was a devoted homemaker and mother. Her family was very important to her. She especially loved holidays when she could cook for everyone. Melvene also enjoyed gardening and sightseeing.

Melvene passed away January 22, 2021 at her home. She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Whittington; husband, James Brantley; son, Pat Brantley; grandson, Kaleb Brantley and sister, Darlene.

Surviving family members include mother, Myrtle Boyer of Centerville; sons, Kendall (Wendy) Brantley of Centerville, Shannon Dale “Bull” (Tina) Brantley of Ragley, LA. and Cork (Diane) Brantley of Buffalo; daughters, Kim (James) Nichols of Centerville and Mary Sue Duncan of DeRidder, LA; daughter-in-law, Kim Brantley of Starks, LA and sisters, Lilly (James) Watkins of Arkansas and Elaine Vanaernam of DeRidder, LA. Melvene is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
