Sue Ann Keeling

A funeral service honoring the life of Sue Keeling, 81, will be held 2 P.M., Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Rev. John Burchell and Rev. Jerry House will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Evans Chapel Cemetery, Leona, Texas. Visiting hours will be held from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the funeral home.


Sue Ann (Collier) Keeling was born December 15, 1941 in Madison County, Texas and passed away May 1, 2023 in The Woodlands, Texas.


Sue was preceded in death by her biological parents, Willie and Julia Sue Bear; adoptive parents, Arlie and Maydell (Hollingsworth) Collier; brothers, Melvin, David and Charles Bear; sisters, Mary Cottle and Shirley Ellis and brothers-in-law, Springer Burke, Randy Ellis and Gerald Cottle.


Surviving family members include husband, Royce Keeling of Leona; sons, Stan Keeling (Brenda) and John Keeling (fiancee, Liz), both of Leona; grandchildren, Stan Keeling, Jr., Garrett Keeling (fiancee, Lexie), Dalton Keeling (April), Brittany Bales (Tanner), Morgan Keeling (fiancee, Nick Jones) and Cheyenne Keeling; great-grandchildren, Ace, Carson, Elijah, Asher and Everly Mae; sisters, Dorothy Burke and Mineola Oswald; nieces, Pam Bolls (Chris) and Julia Teter (Doug); nephews, Joe Burke (Haley), Jason Keeling, and Jason Ellis (Laura).


Sue graduated from Centerville High School in 1960. She went on to attend Sam Houston State University where she graduated with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. Sue taught school for thirty years in Aldine, Normangee, Centerville and Madisonville. Additionally, she worked as a Parole Officer at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for seven years. Sue also did a lot of substitute teaching in local schools for a number of years after retirement.


Sue joined Leona Methodist Church at an early age. She transferred her membership to Evans Chapel Methodist Church after marrying Royce on December 21, 1962 and remained a member for sixty years.


Sue was an outstanding cook and was widely known for her delicious pies. She enjoyed flower gardening, dogs, cats, horses, actually all animals (especially strays), but most of all, Sue loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Evans Chapel Methodist Church, Evans Chapel Cemetery or a charity of choice.


Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
