Tommy Sherman, a beloved member of the Centerville community, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, at the age of 79. He was born on December 12, 1945, in Palestine, Texas, to A.C. "Buck" and Mary (Tubbs) Sherman. Tommy was a lifelong resident of Centerville, Texas, whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Tommy dedicated thirty-one years of his life to serving Leon County in the road and bridge department, where he proudly became the first retiree of this department in the county's history. Known for his great sense of humor, he loved to aggravate and pick on his family and always managed to brighten their days.
An adventurous spirit, Tommy was passionate about flying airplanes and riding his beloved slingshot motorcycle. He also had a knack for operating heavy equipment, often finding joy in the intricacies of machinery.
Above all, Tommy was a man of profound generosity, always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He would give you the shirt off his back, embodying the spirit of kindness and compassion. His strong Christian faith guided him throughout his life and was a cornerstone of his character.
Tommy was preceded in death by both of his parents; brother, James Robert "Bob" Sherman; and nephew, Steven Sherman. He is survived by his devoted spouse of nearly fifty years, Judy (Kuhn) Sherman of Centerville; sister, Mamie Wakefield of Centerville; and numerous extended family members and special friends, who will carry his memory forward with love and grace.
A memorial graveside service will be held in Tommy's honor on April 22, 2025, at 10:30 AM at New Salem Cemetery in the Centerview Community of Leon County, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local charity of choice that reflects Tommy’s generous spirit, allowing his legacy of kindness to continue.
Rest in peace, Tommy. You will be forever remembered and missed.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
