Valerie will be remembered as a woman whose life was rooted in devotion to home and family.
Valerie Tanner Wood, born May 9, 1962, in Freeport, Texas, passed away on September 11, 2026, in Centerville, Texas with the love of her life, Harvey Wood by her side.
Valerie will be remembered as a woman whose life was rooted in devotion to home and family. For most of her life, she was a dedicated homemaker and provider, giving her strength, care, and steady presence to those she loved most. She was passionate about the homeschooling movement and homeschooled her own children, shaping their lives with commitment and purpose. A friend nicknamed her “Pioneer Woman” for her special talents, a name that reflected both her spirit and the way she carried herself. She also worked alongside Harvey, helping with their hog hunting business. Valerie deeply loved her family, hunting, and especially her husband.
In her free time, Valerie enjoyed crafting, scrapbooking, bow making, and sewing. She even had a YouTube channel showcasing her work. She sewed clothing for family members and created elaborate scrapbooks. One of Valerie's proudest accomplishments was that she was present and helped deliver nine children into her family, spanning two generations. She often said that she had missed her true calling to be a midwife, a fact that her family would agree with as everyone felt relief that “everything was going to be ok” as soon as she walked into the delivery room.
At the heart of Valerie’s life was the family she cherished so deeply. She is survived by her husband, Harvey Wood, whose place in her heart was especially dear. She also leaves behind three daughters and two stepsons, Khristin New, Rachael Siegel (Cory), and Hailey Karr (Garrett), Joel Wood (Christina), and Cody Wood (Callie); her brother, Carl Wayne Tanner; and her sister, Katherine Tanner Serna.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Rosier, and her father, Charles Tanner.
