Verner Lloyd Bain, Jr.

December 13, 1935 — September 10, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Verner Lloyd Bain Jr., a beloved father, devoted friend, and an accomplished individual who left an indelible mark on the lives of those he encountered. He peacefully departed this world on September 10, 2023, in Tyler, TX, at the age of 87.

Verner, born on December 13, 1935 in Centerville, Texas to Verner, Sr. & Frances (Pate) Bain, embraced life with an adventurous spirit, seizing every opportunity that came his way. In his younger years, he derived great joy from fishing, bird hunting, and deer hunting, immersing himself in the serenity and beauty of nature. A true lover of animals, Verner raised bird dogs, cherishing the bond formed between man and his faithful companions.

Beyond his passion for the great outdoors, Verner cultivated an insatiable wanderlust, embarking on countless adventures across the globe. Together with his late wife, Gloria, he explored diverse cultures and lands, discovering the vast intricacies this world had to offer. Verner's time in the Army led them to live in Japan, Hawaii, Germany, and Turkey, expanding their experiences and broadening their horizons.

Verner's impressive career spanned several paths of service. He proudly served in the U.S. Marines for three years after retiring from the U.S. Army, dedicating himself to defending his country. After his military tenure, Verner continued to serve in his community, retiring as a Law Library Lieutenant from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. His dedication and commitment to duty were an inspiration to all he encountered.

Though Verner has left this earthly realm, his memory will continue to live on. He will forever be remembered as a loving father, whose guidance and support enriched the life of his daughter, and all who knew and loved him. Verner's legacy will be carried forward by those who knew him as a compassionate listener, a source of unwavering strength, and a trustworthy friend.

Verner was preceded in death by both of his parents; wife, Gloria Bain and sisters, Mary Frances Bain and Bonnie Sue Killam.

Those left to mourn Verner's passing are daughter, Bridgitte (James) Ness of Poynor; grandchildren, Christopher Saxon, Chelsea Hancock, Dustin Ness, Melanie Ness, Heather Ness and Breannah Ness; eight great-grandchildren (one on the way) and nephews, Bob, Bill and Steve Killam.

Relatives, friends, and acquaintances are invited to honor Verner's life and bid him farewell at his funeral service, which will be held at Walters Funeral Home on September 16, 2023, at 1 P.M. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place at 12 Noon, allowing one last opportunity to pay respects to a remarkable man who touched so many lives.

As we lay Verner to rest, we find solace in the knowledge that he lives on through the memories we carry in our hearts. May his spirit find eternal peace, and may we find comfort in cherishing the moments shared and lessons learned from this extraordinary individual.

In honor of Verner's wishes, his final disposition will be through burial with military funeral honors provided by the U.S. Army following the service at the chapel.
