Wilberta Jean (Laflin) Regis was born February 1, 1938 in Wakefield, Kansas to Wilbur & Florence (Harris) Laflin. She married Jerry Regis May 20, 1955 and devoted her life to caring for her husband and family as a homemaker. Wilberta’s four children kept her incredibly busy. Even during hardships from health matters, Wilberta continued to care for her children and constantly place others before herself.
Wilberta is described by her family as the “glue” that held everyone together. Family was very important to her, especially, making time to gather together to celebrate holidays or special occasions. When they lived closer to Kansas, Wilberta, Jerry and the kids would travel every year to be with family for Christmas and any other celebratory occasion.
Wilberta had a natural “green thumb” and was an excellent gardener. With her daughter’s help, she kept a one acre flower garden in her yard, as well as, a vegetable garden. Likewise, she grew fruit trees and other beautiful plants. There was nothing that she couldn’t grow and cultivate. Wilberta was also a talented artist. She was a lover of all animals, and they loved her back. Clocks and music boxes were just some of the items that were collected by Wilberta, and she was the reigning “Train Game” champion in the family. She and her husband, Jerry had lived in Leona since 2001, coming from Kemah in Galveston County, and attended the Cowboy Church of Leon County.
Wilberta passed away May 31, 2018 following a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her family. Wilberta was preceded in death by both of her parents and sister, Peggy Jane. Surviving family members include husband of sixty-three years, Jerry Regis of Leona; sons, Mark Regis of Kemah, Michael Regis of Leona and David Regis of Kemah; daughter, Jennifer Regis of Leona; grandchildren, Laci Farrow, Tariq Mykal Regis, Faith Marie Regis, Corey Matthew Regis, Tiffany, Diana and John and great grandchildren, Lona Rose Stark, Cameron, Ellie, Ryan and Audrey.
